The Miami Heat are wasting no time. They want to lock up Dwyane Wade and now. Technically, Wade has more time left on his contract, but the Heat was to get the contract situation out of the way. They have offered Dwyane Wade the maximum contract allowed under NBA rules. The five year deal would be worth about $80 million. This is the same deal that Carmelo Anthony just signed with Denver.
The only reason not to sign is if Wade wanted to play elsewhere. There’s no more money to be offered. The same deal was also offered to LeBron James in Cleveland, but he has yet to respond. This action has led many to wonder as to James’ intentions for future seasons. Wade wants to play in Miami and wants to win more championships. The Heat can’t officially sign Wade to the deal for another week. It looks like this is a done deal and we should reporting that fact next week.
The Heat say they are not pressured to make the deal since Wade is signed for next season. However, they should be concerned. If they don’t sign Wade and the Heat have a less than championship season, perhaps he then decides to go elsewhere. While Wade might not be pressured to sign, the Heat sure are. Sure, Wade has stated many times that he wants to play in Miami, but a bad season could change all of that. We will keep monitoring this situation. Look for an update next week when signings can be officially done. The 12th of July should be filled with signings.
