If you watched last night’s Game 2 between the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns, you saw an NBA team in the Suns and a team in the Spurs that looked like they didn’t belong in the playoffs.

The Suns seemed to run the same type of offense over and over and over, yet the Spurs couldn’t stop them. Meanwhile, they compounded problems by shooting up pointless 3’s when no one was in position to get a rebound.

Let me just say—and I’m not a Spurs fan by any means—the officiating left something to be desired. I’m not one to expect the refs to catch every single foul, but last night’s officiating was sub par.

Still, it looked like the Spurs let it get to them and they gave up—shame on them.

Last night we saw a combination of a Suns team playing better and a Spurs team playing much worse. I think the “blowout” was really closer.

My advice to sports bettors is to be careful. Many basketball bettors have this tendency to bet on what they saw last. This was really a 5- to 7-point victory, not 20.

I’ve looked around the media world and many are saying that the Suns played defense. Let’s stop that right here. The Spurs played poorly. Yes, the Suns played a little better defensively, but that’s not the story here.

The real story of the game was the amazing accuracy of the Suns. They played above and beyond and had a great shooting night. They made 89.5% of their free throws (81.5% in game one) and they shot 52.6% from the field (46.4% in game one). Here’s another big difference—they took high-percentage shots.

I expect to see a Spurs team that will regroup and play better at home on Saturday. The early line has the Spurs as 4-point favorites. The under/over is 203. This might be a good under to take.
