The San Antonio Spurs beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 97-84 in an exhibition game in Paris on Sunday. Tony Parker was the top Spurs scorer with 27 points. Teammates Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili chimed in with 15 and 10 points respectively. It was expected that Tony Parker would try to have a big game, even in exhibition, because he was in front of his home fans in Paris.

Tony Parker was playing against Asvel Villeurbane of Maccabi Tel Aviv. When asked about coming home and playing a couple games, Parker said, “It’s been a pleasure to come back here and see family and friends, and we had two good games and two wins.” It looks like Parker’s finger, which had been broken, has healed just fine. That finger caused him to miss the world championships—the USA could have used him.

The Paris fans showed how much they love Tony Parker by shouting “Tony! Tony!” and giving him a standing ovation as Parker left the game. There’s now a wax statue of Tony Parker in the Paris Grevin Museum. It was unveiled on Saturday. It was a huge honor for Tony Parker. Only a small handful of athletes are honored in the museum. When asked about it, Parker said, “It’s a great honor. Not just anybody gets into the Grevin museum.”

The top Maccabi scorers were Jaime Arnold with 15 points and Nikola Vujic with 14 points. Aside from the San Antonio Spurs, the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns are also in Europe playing exhibition games. It’s part of this season’s NBA Europe live tour. The NBA season gets into full swing next month. The San Antonio Spurs are expected to challenge for a playoff spot in the 2006-07 season.
