You may be reading what will end up being the swan song for the Seattle Sonics. It’s been reported that the Seattle Sonics majority ownership was sold to an investor group from Oklahoma City. There’s supposed to be a press conference in about 3 hours, so it’s just speculation right now. However, the sources are extremely reliable.

Oklahoma City has wanted an NBA team for some time and they may soon get one. Even though the Sonics have a deal with Key Arena through 2010, there’s talk of the team leaving after next season. It’s plausible since the city of Seattle claims they are losing money with the current arrangement. Some sort of buyout deal or simple let go is bound to happen.

The NBA has had issues in Seattle for some time now. The idea was to move it to a better area, like Bellevue. I guess since Oklahoma City can’t get their own team, they want to steal one from fans in another city. This is just plain bad for the game. It’s another reason why the NBA is nowhere near football in ability and why the game continues to go downhill (fans and money wise).

So Washingtonians, enjoy the Sonics, because their time appears to be limited. It’s sad when fans have teams ripped away from them by greedy and ruthless people, like those in Oklahoma.
