It looks like the Indiana Pacers and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a deal. It’s not a blockbuster, but both teams feel it will help make their benches better. The deal can not be officially done until next week (Wednesday). The Indiana Pacers are going to receive Marquis Daniels from the Mavericks. In return, the Mavericks will be receiving Austin Coshere.
Croshere was slated to earn $7 million with the Pacers this season. He’s in the last year of his contract. I am not sure that $7 million is a good price for someone that scores 7.5 points and gets 4.3 rebounds per game. If so, I am available to play. He might get a little more playing time in Dallas. They really need someone that can step in when Nowitzki takes a breather.
The deal is pretty even, money wise. In 2004, Daniels signed a six-year deal with the Mavericks. The contract was for $38 million, which is just over $6 million per season. I guess the Mavericks are getting the better deal, because they won’t be locked into a contract. Daniels started 29 games and scored 10.2 points per game. It was a career high for him. The Pacers are hoping that this year’s performance was a sign of his ability.
He is a little green though. Daniels did not get much playing time in this year’s playoffs. Against Phoenix, he only average 7 minutes per game. Against Miami, he only 9 minutes per game. He could get more playing time. Also with the coming signing of Peja Stojakovic, the Pacers might be heading to the playoffs. Daniels could come in handy. The deal looks to be good for both teams. The Pacers need someone with potential to play and Dallas just needs an able body to come off the bench.
