Ok Cleveland Cavaliers fans, you can breathe now. It’s finally over. LeBron James agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers and that whole silence ordeal is now over. The smart forward turned down a five year deal with Cleveland initially. He decided on a three year deal with the team. The issue was not money—Cleveland was offering the maximum allowed by the NBA is both instances.
The issue, it seems, is the team’s willingness to do what it takes to win. By signing the three year deal, LeBron is serving notice to Cleveland that he won’t sign deals with losing teams. Cleveland has the next three years to impress LeBron and show they really want to win.
James is showing good business sense. As for one reason why he signed just a three year deal, he said, “we did extensive research and with the way the CBA is set up, it makes the most business sense to sign this extension and then look at another new contract in four years.” As to his happiness over the deal being done, Lebron James said, “Now I can continue to concentrate on basketball and helping bring a championship to Cleveland.” Things are already looking up for Cav fans. 2007 could be a breakthrough year.
