Last night the Detroit Pistons were facing elimination in game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Detroit. They definitely came to play and to prove that they were a championship caliber team. The Heat never appeared in the game really. It appeared as if they were not giving a full effort. While the Pistons won, they did not necessarily have stellar performances from all key players. It’s almost as if Miami came out hoping Detroit would be down and over play so they could steal one.
As it turns out, Detroit turned Miami back and now the series goes to Miami for another elimination game—game six. The pressure is starting to build for Miami. Could they actually lose a 3-1 series lead? If so, what’s next? Aside from adding Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, how can this team improve? They have one of the best coaches in the history of the game and an all-star starting lineup.
The early NBA line has Miami as a 4 point favorite, but indicators show this line trending downward—perhaps to 3.5 early and 2.5-3 by game time. If Miami can’t get it done at home against the Pistons, how can they be expected to get it done in a game 7 at Detroit? In many ways, this is an elimination game for the Heat as well. The pressure is turned up, how will they respond? Game 6 is tomorrow night in Miami at 8 pm EST.
