Bulls vs Pistons – Is anyone watching?

This has to be the most boring series of the 2007 NBA Playoffs so far. And now, it’s even worse.

The Detroit Pistons beat the Chicago Bulls 108-87 last night—21-point victory. The Pistons now have a 2-0 game lead over the Bulls and they don’t lose a series when they have a 2-0 game lead.

So, is there any reason to watch—for those not Chicago or Detroit fans or basketball bettors? Nope.

This series was boring and doomed from game one. It brings up a bigger issue. What will the NBA ratings be like for the Conference Finals and the Finals?

It’s almost a foregone conclusion that the Detroit Pistons will represent the East in the NBA Finals. With basketball in the East being this boring, there’s no reason to watch. And that leave just the West to watch—possibly.

For Sports Bettors

Game 3 in the Chicago/Detroit series represents a major issue. The Vegas sportsbooks have the Chicago Bulls as a 3-point favorite—as low as 2 in some places.

So, do you laugh all the way to bank by taking Detroit? Or, do you pause for a minute and rethink this one? The Bulls are at home now and expected to play better. Will the 0-2 hole and the fact that Detroit doesn’t lose with leads like this make them play any less?

If it weren’t for basketball betting, I don’t think many would be watching this game. I know I wouldn’t be.
