We’ve approached the “good stuff” in this year’s NBA playoffs. It’s show time. I took a look at some sportsbooks today to see what the NBA futures were looking like. There are some decent lines to be had still.
Perhaps the worst line is the Detroit Pistons to win the Eastern Conference, which is at -125. No thanks. If you like them to win the East, you’re better off laying the extra juice and taking them at the -175 series price against the Chicago Bulls.
Since I don’t think the Detroit Pistons will win the East, I looked at two teams that have a shot—Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls. The Cavaliers are getting +295 and the Bulls +410.
If you love living on the edge, you can get +855 for the NJ Nets.
Over in the West, it’s a little more cut and dry. The two staple teams, San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns, are +160 and +120 respectively.
The Golden State Warriors are coming off their impressive series one win over the Dallas Mavericks. They are at +900, which is somewhat empty considering what their series price against the Mavs was.
Utah and Houston figure to be tired out after their long series. The Rockets are +570 and the Jazz +1300.
NBA Championship
So, how about winning it all? The Suns and Spurs are favorites and their prices aren’t worth it in my opinion. Bet the Suns and you’ll get +180, bet the Spurs and you’ll get +270.
The favorite in the East—Pistons—are +485, which is respectable. The two East teams to look at are the Cleveland Cavaliers—getting +960—and the Chicago Bulls—getting +1000.
Here’s the thing in the West. The Suns and Spurs are playing each other in the semi-finals, so one will be gone. You know this. That means the West finals will be one of the favorites and one of the dogs. Golden State is at +1900 right now. We don’t know if they will be playing Utah (+1900) or Houston (+1100). We do know that one of these three teams will be in the West finals.
If you’re going to play any NBA future, shop around. I’ve seen some serious price discrepancies and if you don’t shop around, you’ll lose a lot. For instance, I said that Golden State was 9-1 to win the West finals. However, I’ve seen them as low as 4.5-1 at a well-known sportsbook. That’s some serious money lost.
